Match report At last, the league has begun. Our first match in the North London league was against last years champions, Wanstead from Essex. Their opening bowlers kept in tight, restricting the opening bats to 24 runs off the first 11 overs. Marilyn Smith (62 not out) and Esme Cooke (16) took the game to the bowlers, dispatching short bowling to all boundaries. Katie Davies showed promise in the adult game with 9 not out. We reached 140 off our 30 overs.
The Wanstead batting took us by surprise, as they attacked from the start. A brilliant direct hit from Olevia Poynter removed the dangerous opener and the scoring rate slowed further when Margaret Page began to exert pressure, ending up with 3 wickets for 16 runs. New bowlers Rasna Sandhu, Reshma Garrera and Jacqui Harrington showed promise, but Wanstead showed us what happens when you bowl short in this league. Their aggressive batting style is something for us to learn from. They reached our score with 6 overs to spare. A promising start to the season, and one for us to build on. Well done everyone, and bring on Hampstead next week.
