Match report Our first 9.30am start, and we were still half asleep. With only 10 players we knew we would be up against it. Margaret Page was out to a high first ball, caught square leg. Katie Davies followed with the same shot next ball, but was luckily dropped by the same fielder. Katie went on to steady the ship, scoring 11 runs, and was joined by Oclevia Poynter, who hit the ball hard, but it didnt go anywhere in the damp early morning dew. Marilyn Smith came in and made the innings last, scoring a slow 20. Good running with Lucy Davies at the end, and brave last stand from Carlene Bender and Emine Oktay saw our total reach 89.
Margaret Page and Emine Oktay opened the bowling, and kept it tight for the first 6 overs. Emine then retired through sickness, leaving us with 9 fielders. Everyone fielded brilliantly, making Potters Bar work for their runs. We bowled tightly, not giving much away in wides and no balls. Kathy Lee, in her first game of the season took two catches and a stumping. Sarah Baigent was the pick of the bowlers, with 3 for 11 off 4 overs. Marilyn Smith took 2 for 7 off 6 overs, and Margaret Page, Katie Davies and Lucy Davies all chipped in with wickets. The stage was set for a big finale. With 3 overs to go, they needed 10 runs to win and we needed 2 wickets to win. Unfortunately, only batting with 10 and the gap in the field paid a price, and Potters Bar reached our total in the 29th over.
Another close match for the ladies team. Everyone played really well, with committed and solid fielding by all. A great team effort and next time we will win !!!!!
