Bessborough III v Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 11 May 2013 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn Losing Draw 1 Point

Match report Old Actonians 3rd XI returned home from Bessborough with a losing draw and one point after a rain hit fixture could not be completed.

Bessborough won the toss and elected to bat first but lost opener Dinesh (who had scored 145 in the corresponding fixture last season) in the first over when he edged behind to Spinks off the bowling of Arghandabi. Bessborough then upped the tempo and Doole hit two nice boundaries after a couple of loss deliveries from Smith.

Smith hit back in his next over by bowling Doole for 11 off the first ball and removing Popat a couple of balls later to complete a double wicket maiden and leave Bessborough at 15/3.

Kiryshanath and Priyan then rebuilt the innings sharing a large stand for the fourth wicket, which was finally broken when Kiryshanath holed out to Arghandabi off the bowling of Puranik. Last years Butterworth shield winner followed this up with the wicket of Vithusan who he bowled through the gate later in the same over.

At this point some fine batting form Priyan and Viteh saw Bessborough rack up a good total, and what was notable was that both played themselves in before playing more expansive shots. The stand was finally broken when Smith bowled Priyan for 73. At this point Arghandabi took over removing both Viteh and Akila in consecutive overs. A quick 15 from Tabraj helped kicked Bessborough up to 225 but wickets for Smith and Arghandabi saw Bessborough bowled out for 225.

In reply Old Actonians never got going, with Puranik who scored his first ever hundred on this ground on his last visit and Spinks falling early for 13 and 1 respectively.

Payne, Hawkins and Arghandabi then stuck around for a while but by this stage the games was interrupted by numerous rain intervals and it was getting hard to bat on the wicket.

None of the other Old Actonians batsman contributed anything of any note before the game had to be called off due to rain with Old Actonians on 71/9. This meant that the Axemen came home with a point from our first game of the season.
