Match report We got off to a dire start, losing Sarah baigent for 5 and Marilyn Smith for an appalling golden duck in the second over! Oclevia Poynter and Lucy Davies pulled it around with some brisk and powerful hitting, until Lucy was out for 12 with the score on 40 in the 8th over. Antonia Welch came to the crease and Oclevia continued hitting out until she was bowled for 16. Edna Moses was run out without facing a ball. Reshma Garrera scored 6 and Debbie Curtis 2 , but we looked shaky on 85 for 7 in the 18th over. Amy van Collomberg came to the crease and she and Antonia steadied the innings, carefully building a partnership of 37 to give us a respectable score of 126 for 9 in our 30 overs.
We started bowling well, and Hampstead were getting worried at their slow scoring raate off miserly bowling. They had 21 off 9 overs, compared to our 42 in the same time. But they had wickets in hand. A change of bowling saw Edna Moses take the first wicket, with Salma Virk holding onto a difficult high catch. Hampstead continued to press on and began to push our fielding to keep up with the run rate. An excellent run out by Salma Virk saw off ex Old Actonian Vicky Griffiths Fisher. Amy von Collomberg bowled the opener and game on. Wickets began to fall, with one each for Reshma Garrera, Antonia Welch, and 2 for Amy van Collomberg and Lucy Davies. Lucy Davies threw for another excellent run out, and we were almost home. last over. 2 to win for Hampstead, one wicket needed for Old Actonians. Unfortunately Hampstead got their runs.
An excellent match to start the season. Everyone showed great spirit in the field, and also supporting the batting. If we carry on like this, we can win the league.
Next week, we have our first round match in the T20 cup, away to Eastcote 1.30pm start. If you are available to play, let me know by Tuesday
