Match report Our first match at Boddington Gardens. Bit surprised at the length of grass on the outfield. And the wicket too for that matter, but conditions are the same for both teams. We won the toss and elected to field first. That seemed like a good decision when Antonia trapped the Hampstead captain lbw with the 4th ball of the match. Maz bowled the No 3 for a duck and we got very excited. Game on. The pitch was variable, and we knew we had to contain runs to stand a chance of winning, as a big total wasn't on the cards for either side. A change of bowling saw Camille come on, and another wicket fell. The fourth wicket to fall was effectively a dropped catch when the ball was drilled at Maz fielding at short cover. She just about deflected it to Reshma (saving getting a broken nose) and Reshma threw the rebounded ball to the stumps for a great run out. Edna and Ellie came on to bowl and the wickets continued to fall, Edna getting 2 for 9 and Ellie 2 for 15. It took 8 overs to break the 9th wicket partnership, but Maz finally bowled her. All out for 81. We were pretty pleased with ourselves, bowling a side out quite cheaply.
Well, as the saying goes, pride comes before a fall.
Maz and Antonia opened. Antonia was brilliantly caught at first slip by the captain (clearly fired up to avenge getting a duck in her innings) in the second over. Maz was bowled for a duck and the warning signs were out. We had 2 runs for 2 wickets in the 4 th over. Not the start we wanted,, Katie started to hit the ball cleanly, and payed very sensibly, but she was unluckily trapped lbw for 12. Lucy was unlbowled for 6. Edna showed some true grit and made 25. One swipe of the bat too many, and she was caught in the deep. Reshma got 5 runs and three were 5 more scores of zero.
All out for 71 in 20.3 overs. Our lowest score of the season, and possibly for about 3 years.
Our extras, 26, were the highest score of the day for both sides !!!!!!!!!
We clearly have a lot to work on.
Next week Wanstead away, and looking to improve
