Hampstead Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Sun 14 Aug 2016 at 10.00am
Actonians Cricket Club Won

Match report Another early start this season, this time the fines pot was going to look healthy.

With both team needing to win to have a chance in winning the league and with some usual names missing in both teamsheets, it looked to be a good game of cricket. Elsa and Eimear playing their first ladies league game this season and Jaya making her debut for the club.

Reshma lost the toss and we were put into field first. Lucy and Amy opened the bowling and it wasn't long until we broke the opening partnership, a simple catch for Amy off her own bowling in her first over. The bowlers were backed up with good fielding all around creating pressure on Hampstead who were struggling for runs. A lovely ball from Lucy took the second wicket in the 7th over and Hampstead were 19 for 2. Keely and Edna came into the attack, 100% effort from everyone in the field letting little past us. A great diving effort from Debbie to stop the ball however left her hobbling, she was determined to stay on but was forced to retire hurt as she was barely able to move. A play down, but we remained positive, Edna took two wickets in her spell and a very calm run out to leave a struggling Hampstead 63 for 5 in 20 overs. Reshma came on with Amy finishing her overs at the other end, we tried hard but just couldn't take the wicket of their opener also their captain for the game, who went onto score a half century, however wickets continued to fall the other with Amy taking one and Reshma two, restricting Hampstead to 105 runs in their 30 overs. A really good performance from everyone, particularly Eimear who kept and Elsa who fielded really well.

The sun was coming out and we had a lot of time to get these runs, Keely and Katie opened and got us of to a really good start. Great shots all around the ground had us on 82 in the 15 over when we lost our first wicket. Although there was no rush, a little bit of panic created a mini collapse, which saw Reshma and Amy in the middle with 12 overs to get 21 runs. With no real rush, they kept the runs ticking slowly with easy single and running hard for a few doubles, a bad call for a single that was not at all necessary at this stage in the game saw Amy back with the rest of the team. 6 runs needed in 5 over and Reshma was joined by her netball team mate Jaya playing her first game for the club. They stayed calm taking single, with a boundary to finish in the 27th over. I hope your nails grow back soon guys

Thanks to Richard for scoring and Jennifer for umpiring, Kevin, baby Ria, Malik and Josh for coming down to support.
