Match report Old Actonians made it four from four in our last Cricket week match with a hard fought win against our local rivals Northfields CC.

Northfields won the toss and elected to bowl first on a boiling hot day. The decision seemed a bizarre one but when Kent removed Russell first ball and then Spinks third ball it seemed an inspired choice. Russell was slightly unlucky as the ball held up in the pitch but the wily old fox Spinks appeared to be suffering from his blow to the head he received at the weekend as he went against his natural urges of a nurdle and decided to go full IPL glam mode and creamed the ball straight to cover.

From there Richard Thompson and Geoff Barker put together a century partnership with Barker falling just short of his half century when he was adjudged LBW to Neil Russell. R Thompson went on to 71 before he was caught by Kent of the bowling of Neil Redhead. Cameos from Boughton, Butt and Slaughter took the Axeman to a total of 204 in their 40 overs.

In reply Northfields started off slowly with the opening pair of Hennessey and Smith restricting them to short shrift. When Hennessey removed Mechan, Devalia upped the rate for a bit before falling victim to the evergreen Bobby Coutts. Boughton came into the attack and reduced Northfields to 87/7 with an excellent display of bowling. It was a very encouraging spell from a 14 year old who bowled excellent line and length. At this point the Redhead family came to the crease and took the game to the axemen. They took the score to 178 when Smith had David Redhead caught and bowled. With Smith bowled out Upasena turned to Ali Slaughter who removed Derek Redhead by bowling him with a full ball and then had Kent LBW. Northfields were all out for 187 and as a result Olds a won by 17 runs.
