East Herts Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Sun 15 Jul 2018 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 55 runs

Match report Sorry it's a long one just too many good performances!!

On another gloriously hot day we took the long journey to East Herts. They won the toss and elected to field (I mean who would choose to bowl in 30 degree heat but okay?!). Without our usual openers Emma graciously stepped up to open with Katie. Started well but unfortunately Emma fell to a straight one. This brought Alex to the crease. Running 3's definitely left both bats tired from the heat. Thankfully made it to drinks and the score was 75-1. Some great batting from Alex saw her bring up her 50 pretty quickly. Some cheeky singles saw the field getting frustrated. Until the opener was brought back on in the 19th over and Katie (45) went for LBW with a partnership of 107. 'Apparently' Lucy and Alex don't bat well togetherand sure enough Alex had got bowled for 58 leaving Lucy at the other end.Debbie played some lovely cut shots and Lucy turning over the singles until Debbie (7) was suspiciously run out. Injured Resh then came to bat with Lucy and pushed the singles batting well even in the brace. Lucy looking confident played lovely shot after lovely shot. Unfortunately, Reshma (6) fell toanother dubious run out. Giovanna came on for her debut at batting with a 4 first ball we knew we were on for a good score between her and Lucy. Lovely shots from both saw the score continue to grow. Lucy sitting on 47 hit a lovely shot for 2 however BUZZERS saw her bring up her first 50 this season. Giovanna had supported Lucy well but was run out in the 38th over but ended on an impressive 21 runs. In came Katy O for some brilliant batting to see our overs out ending 2* and Lucy on 52*. A very mature innings from Lucy with entertaining shots and good running. We ended on 219-6.

A lovely tea, with some amazing cake (I'm sure I ate way too much of!), we were off to field. A bit of a tactical bowling idea meant Alex and Katy opened up. It worked because in the 4th over a lovely flighted ball from Katy saw their opener come down the track and hit it straight to Katie for a lovely catch. Really tight overs from both and Alex beating the bat several times. The next wicket came in the 19th over a duo from Emma (me) and Katie (mini me) so they were 77-2 with both openers out. Lucy then took the 3rd wicket by bowling the stumps out the ground. Amazing keeping from Debbie did see her end up bruised. Don't worry we fined Alex, Emma and Lucy for it!In her last over of the spell she decided she'd bowl well and get taken off so start bowler Giovanna could come on. Reshma at the other end this duo was great. Some great presh from Resh saw her take the 4th wicket bowled. I mean a fine for saying 'How did that happen?'. Then the next over saw Giovanna's debut wicket (after Katie dropping one before) with Alex taking a superb catch. As usual great pressure in the field from Karina and Carlene backing the bowlers up. A short while later saw Giovanna take her second wicket again partnering with Alex for the catch. They were 123-6 off 32 overs. Alex came back on to take the 7th wicket clattering the stumps the batsmen had no chance. Some more drops from Katie but this time not being tall enough the reason meant Katy O really deserved another wicket. And in the final over she returned to get it, a great catch from Lucy. East Herts ended 164-8 and we had won by miles.

A really great game with some notable performances and the fact we managed to keep our extras down was great. Lucy for her first 50 in a while. More to come from you in the rest of the season please. Of course, our brilliant young player Giovanna for an impressive all round performance batting and bowling. Very naturally talented and should have ended up with more wickets. One to watch in the remaining games and the future! Carlene thank you very much for stepping up last minute, but I have to say you've never looked so comfortable in the field which is great to see. Emma for taking one for the team and opening the batting with me. Andfinally, Katy O for her debut opening bowling. Sorry I can't mention everyone here, but I promise it was a real team effort.

Thanks to Piri and Robbo for scoring/umpiring. Looking forward to playing North London on Sunday. Don't forget 11.45am at BODDINGTON. Let's win this!!!
