Kenton 3 v Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 12 May 2018 at 12.30pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report The 3s took to the field at Kenton this week against a side relegated from the County League but, like us, had won their opening game last week very convincingly. The skipper won his 2nd toss in a row and with a dodgy forecast decided to bowl first. Last years player of the year Piri was back to show the new ball with Nathan and we could see straight away that the wicket was not going to be as generous to our bowlers as your average Boddingtons strip! Their batsmen were certainly not looking to nerdle and this proved the downfall of their opener who ambitiously tried to pull a ball from Piri that was not all that short and he ended up playing on to his stumps. The next partnership put on over 50 but Tommy Byrne tempted the other opener with one of his floaty tempters and he was duly stumped by VC. The 3rd wicket was rather gifted to us when an Aneeq misfield lead to a mix up resulting in Mr TFC, Sameer, having to just get the ball to the VC to execute an easy run out. From them on the game started to drift away from us with some sloppy fielding and loose bowling. Too many boundary balls and wides chaps. To be fair their number 4 struck the ball very well and brought up a well deserved half century. The skipper turned to golden arm Asif and he picked a couple of wickets to get us back in the game and when rain forced us off we had given ourselves a chance if we had managed to get back on. 188 for 5 with 9 to go....... we could have restricted them to a gettable score on what was a good batting wicket.

Alas it was not to be and both sides had to settle for a point. We saw enough of the oppo to suggest they will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. Hopefully our bowlers will be better next week for getting some overs under their belts. Piri bowled a good opening spell and the Qamar brothers both did ok too.

Schlong de la jour? There was still enough time and overs for one man to put his hand up for this prestigious honour. That man is Aneeq who decided on smoking rather than take part in the stretching before the game and he claimed the credit for the run out after allowing the ball to go through his legs!

Tough one next week against Harrow Town. Let’s do the absent skipper proud ( off to the theatre with his girlfriend) and do something the UK Eurovision entry failed to do, and pick up dix points!
