Actonians Cricket Club 1st XI v Mill Hill Village on Sat 30 May 2009 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 71 runs
Match report
Old Actonian’s march back to the top flight of the Middlesex Championship stepped-up a gear last week with an emphatic 71 run victory over Mill Hill Village.
The win puts the Gunnersbury Drive club top of Division Two after four matches, seven points ahead of Birkbeck College and 42 points in front of local rivals Hanwell.
Another terrific performance with bat and ball saw Old A’s home after posting a hefty 268-6 off 51 overs.
Aussie phenomenon Adam Pearson top-scored with 125 not out, his second ton of the season. Boundaries flowed as usual, Pearson’s knock featuring 4 sixes and 18 fours as he peppered the ropes with classy shots.
Pearson still hasn’t been winkled out in his first season of English league cricket despite amassing 395 runs in four knocks.
Ably assisted by Kiwi Brad Kuypers, another significant new player this season, who notched up 48, and South African Craig Nel with a breezy 32, Old A’s set Mill Hill a stiff target to win.
Young quick George Gregory immediately set back Mill Hill’s reply with a hostile first spell, knocking over the top three batters for just 33 runs. Gregory ended-up with excellent figures of 8-3-23-3.
Mill Hill’s only resistance came from the big-hitting C Gallagher, whose 108 featured several hefty blows that soared over the long-on boundary.
But once canny off-spinner Cliff Pile trapped Gallagher at mid-off going for another big hit, Old A’s were into Mill Hill’s tail and the last four batters folded for a handful of runs and 197 all out.
Pile picked-up four wickets cheaply for 41 runs, taking his season’s haul to 13 wickets, the club’s leading wicket taker, at an average of 8.77 a piece.
