Match report Won the toss again and elected to bat. To change things around, this week we opened with Marilyn Smith and Preeti Kate. Things didnt go too well for Preeti, when she got a pea roller in the second over. Kelsey Toner came in, but was run out by an excellent direct throw from point after facing only one ball. This brought Margaret Page to the crease, and she and Marilyn set about building an innings against bowling that got better from Wanstead as the innings progressed. Margaret scored 32 until she was undone by a low ball that got her lbw. Lauren Oliver came in and soon regained her form, from last year. Hitting the ball very cleanly, she soon scored 32 not out. She and Marilyn (66 not out) took the total up to 143.
Kelsey was really fired up after her run out, and started with an excellent pacy and aggresive first over. Double wicket maiden to start the innings, followed by 2 more wickets, with excellent catches by Margaret Page and Ellie Bourne. At 34 for 4, we were in the driving seat. But Wanstead had other ideas. The left hander caused all sorts of problems for the bowlers and setting the field, and she attacked the bowling, ending up on 69 not out. We took 6 wickets, but their tail kept wagging, and they reached the target with 4 overs to spare.
We know we can do better, and have the chance for revenge when we play Wanstead again at their ground next week. We can score more runs, bowl more tightly, and now we have seen their players, setting a left / right field should be less confusing. Plenty of positives from this match - Kelsey's bowling, Lauren's resurgence with the bat, Maz holding up one end, Ellie and Mags taking great catches. We just need to put it all together in one match, and we will.
