Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v Hutton Ladies on Sun 24 Jun 2018 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 125 runs

Match report At the moment we really are getting the best of the British summer. So on a very hot Sunday afternoon Reshma won the toss (yayy!) and elected to bat first. In went Keely and Katie. With a good bowling attack and an annoying left arm opener meant the runs started off quite slowly. Playing responsibly Keely looked to turn over the strike, plus enormous boundaries meant we had to start running more. At the first drinks break we were 50-0. Not a bad position and now we could start accelerating. Overs went by and runs kept building and eventually Katie reached her 50. Keely then started to accelerate and shortly after also reached her 50 thankfully hitting a full toss meaning it wasn't a no ball (according to the official looking umpire). It was a very hot day and in the 30th over was a much needed 2nd drinks. Keely and Katie were still in the middle and Floss (aka Flo) & Lucy starting to get pad rash. Hutton struggled as they didn't know what to do, and the batting going so well, they kept bringing on different bowlers- with some throwing involved!! Now was the time to bat for the rest of the innings and enjoy the encouragement from the sidelines. With Katie getting very close to 100 it was getting a bit (extremely!) nerve wracking. Not going to lie I felt very sick sitting on 94 trying not to look at the scoreboard. Thankfully Keely was there to calm any nerves and (with probably my worst shot of the match) I hit a 2 to reach my maiden 100 for the club. A little tear later and cheers all round, it was time to focus on seeing the innings through. It was an almost perfect batting innings with the batsmen not giving a single chance away, until Keely (79) thought it would be nice to let Floss come in for 1 over to improve her average. So, we ended up on 218-1 with Floss (3*) and Me (103*).

After another amazing tea by Katy O it was our turn to field. Determined to win we opened with our usuals, Alex and Emma. (Now forgive me because I don't know what overs wickets fell in as on play cricket I couldn't seem to find that part of the score book!). The first wicket came from Emma, a lovely ball that was hit straight into the hands of the skipper Resh. Cooly taken. The next over from Emma saw another wicket, coming of the batsmans top edge and safely landing in Katie's hands. This was not going well for Hutton. With Alex bowling so well at the other end (you could tell they really didn't like the bowling) it was only a matter of time before the much deserved wicket was going to come. Swinging at a ball and a lovely top edge landing in Debbie's gloves meant Alex had her first wicket. One batter did take a ball to the chest but what's the point of bowling if you don't injure a batsmen- Right Alex?! So instead Alex (6-0-14-2) decided to send the stumps flying and came her 2nd wicket. Hutton were now 38-4. The excitement didn't stop as the next over Emma bowled a lovely non high ball and it was hit in the air for a superb catch by Lucy to be called a no ball by their umpire. With the batsmen out their crease frantic calls to run them out were made and eventually Lucy stopped celebrating with Reshma and ran the batsman out with a direct hit. Unlucky for Emma (5.3-0-28-2) but another wicket down. Flo practising the floss on the boundary meant it was time to bring the field in. This then saw a bowling change bringing on Katy O and Lucy. Katy O (7.3-1-14) bowled the best spell I have ever seen her bowl. You really did deserve a wicket but it does show how much the hard work on your bowling has paid off and it was all for the team. Keep it up as you will be coming back on to bowl! Great fielding by Sally as always at your reserved point position. Lucy cleaned up 3 wickets the other end. The first bowled taking off stump out he ground. The second a lovely catch by Emma. The final one again bowled the stumps but not before a superb run out by Emily, perfect throw to Lucy (not aiming for the stumps at all!). Lucy's spell finished 7.2-3-23-3, which doesn't even give justice to just how well you bowled. The final wicket came from Emily. Life teacher extraordinar (yes I can't spell), running out the girl with a cheeky under arm direct hit as she wondered out her crease, saw Hutton bowled out for 92. Definitely a fine for making her cry but I do agree she'll never do that again!!

An amazing result with a well deserved win. Everyone played so well, keep up this positivity and we can win on Sunday. Thanks again to Zara for scoring and Piri for umpiring.
