Wycombe House 3 v Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 22 Jun 2019 at 12.30pm
Match was Drawn Winning Draw

Match report The threes traveled to the picturesque Boston Manor Playing Fields nestled between Hitesh Patel's house and the stunning architecture of the M4 to take on the win-less Wycombe House. Having had three drop-outs on Saturday morning, the threes had a slightly different chemistry with the inform H Patel, Ronit Bhatia and Roheet Gupta coming in (the later arriving 30 minutes after the meet time despite living 5 houses away because - "I was watching the India game"). The skipper promptly lost the toss and we found ourselves in the field. Keir and the skipper continued with their budding new ball partnership to put some early pressure on with the skipper claiming an early LBW to put Wycombe House into 'rebuild mode.' The home side batted slow but sensibly and saw off the opening bowling and continued a vigil again Sahil and Shauny, they looked to be heading to tea 1 down until Shauny had other ideas... Their cocky number three survived a spirited LBW shout, then feeling guilty sprayed a 'lolly' of a catch to Keir at cover who promptly spilled it; felt extra guilty and missed a straight one next ball to finally be bowled for 21 (what a nice bloke). Their number four then walked out to play his first ball on and all of a sudden Shauny was on a hat-trick! With a stacked close in field, their number four survived (just) and Wycombe House went to tea on about 80 odd for 3 - Advantage Actonians... We then decided to let the heat get to us a bit in the field and slept-walked through the next 10 overs until Mr Gupta produced a stunning Run Out to stop Wycombe Houses momentum. Their opener continued to bat well and eventually carried his bat for a wonderful 105* in the full 50 overs available to them to see his side through to a challenging 210/6.

So the equation was 211 in 42 overs for the win and 177 for the winning draw. In the absence of 2 meter Charlie, the skipper decided to promote himself to opener with Mr Maben after feeling extra confident following his 3 ball duck last week for his second bat of the season. After what can only be described as a batting masterclass of straight drives and glorious leg glances he was unlucky to play on for 19 in the 8th over with the score on 29, still an aggressive start helped set the pace for the middle order to continue, unfortunately Shahid didn't get the memo and was adjudged LBW in the same over. This brought H to the crease who played shots all round the ground and looked to be set before missing a straight one and being bowled for 18. Rakesh followed shortly after which brought our kiwi keeper for the day to the crease - Sam and Andrew set about building a fantastic partnership which kept us up with the required rate to go for the win. Their partnership was eventually broken at 77 runs when Mr Maben was bowled for 47 (jug avoidance). Ronit joined Sam and looked to keep the kiwi on strike, but with the field spread and the big fella having done more than 300 squats in the first innings, he eventually fell to a tired shot and was bowled for 49 (another jug). In light of this, we reevaluated our position and the lower order guided us through to the winning draw total. A top effort from a batting line up that looked fragile on paper.

Man of the match - has to go to Sam, a huge effort to stand in as keeper (and give less byes than Spinksy) and back it up with a classy innings that almost saw us home.

Slong du jour - Has to be our VC for skipping cricket to go to a stag do and make the skipper fill in the results/write the match report - and then not even share any pictures of the 'entertainment.'

Roll on SKLP next week where the skipper will be off and Spinksy will be running the ship - over to you VC!
