Match report Another win for the ladies! Winning the toss and choosing to bat didnt seem like such a good idea when Sarah Baigent was bowled first ball of the innings, But Keely Juster and Lauren Oliver steadied the innings. Lauren played some nice shots before being bowled, and then Katie Davies scored a sensible 10 runs. Keely Juster played well, putting on 46 in her maiden innings for the club. Marilyn Smith came to the crease as wickets began to tumble. Lucy Davies (2) Edna Moses (4) and Amy van Collomberg (4) all contributed but we were 7 down in the 21st over. Debbie Curtis came to the crease and played very sensibly, to reach her top score of 22 not out, outscoring Marilyn Smith on 17 not out. We had wanted more than 130 runs, so knew we had to bowl and field well.
And that is what we did. Lauren Oliver ran out the opener in the 3rd over, with a superb direct hit from cover, then Marilyn Smith bowled the other opener in the same over. This tore the heart out of their innings and only 2 of their players made double figures. Marilyn Smith and Amy van Collomberg bowled tightly again, and Hemel Hempstead were way behind the run rate at 17 off the first 12 overs. Edna Moses came on and took 3 wickets in one over. She then hurt her knee and went off, with 4 wickets for 2 runs off 3 overs. Lucy Davies took 1 for 2 off 5 overs, and Reshma Garrera took 2 for 10 off 5. We bowled them out for 54 off 29.5 overs.
Another excellent win, putting us in 2nd place in the table. Before we get cocky about this, the teams we have beaten are the bottom two, and the next two matches are against 1st and 3rd in the league. It will get tougher, but these early games have shown that we have depth in the squad, and that everyone contributes. Training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays are paying off, as there werent any misfields or dropped catches today.
