Looking ahead to the weekend...

11 May 2012

An important weekend of competitive crickets awaits us...will the weather allow us the pleasure?

Alas, it was all over for the 4th XI before it began - the opposition could not get a team out. But hopefully the 1s (away to Turnham Green), 2s (home v Turnham Green) and 3s (against North Middlesex 4s) can pick up 10 points in the more conventional way.
As of Friday morning, it's sunny in London and the forecast is for that to continue throughout the weekend, so we may have better luck too for the rescheduled cup game at Edmonton on Sundayand for the Ladies' first match - a friendly against Orpington Nomads also on Sunday, at home, 1.30pm start (Twitter updates: @OldAsLadies).

However, the sheer volume of rain we've had means that grounds are likely to be wet for while yet, so keep eyes peeled on Twitter (@OldAs_CC) and email for any updates. It's usually safe to assume that if we can't play at Old As, no one's playing anywhere - thanks to our tip-top drainage - but at the moment things are looking bright!

Whatever happens, Saturday should be a good night, with a BARBECUE planned at the club to welcome new players and remind us that, even when it rains, the cricket club is a great place to be. It should be a cheap and cheerful affair, and there are rumours of a Caribbean surprise for a lucky few...(I'll say no more). Bring friends and family, the more the merrier!

Good luck to all teams this weekend, especially to those making their club debuts. In the mean time, amuse yourself with Ali Slaughter's excellent match report of last Sunday's friendly defeat against UWLCC - unfortunately our only pre-season fixture to escape the weather.
