Chesham Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Sun 18 Aug 2013 at 10.00am
Actonians Cricket Club Won

Match report A 10am start isn’t something that we are used to, judging by the enthusiastic pre-game warm up! Cath won the toss and elected to bat. Cath and Mags started steadily, but it was hard work against an accurate opening attack, huge boundaries and a slow outfield. At 18 for 3 after 9 overs we were a bit worried. Lauren and Maz came in, and Lauren decided the tactic was quick running to put off the fielders. She clearly forgot the age and fitness difference between her and Maz! But it worked. Hit it hard and the field dropped back. Then run quick singles and the field came in. Run a quick one to a fielder, and gain extra runs from overthrows. They took the score up to 109, almost a century partnership before Lauren was unluckily bowled for 38 and then Maz caught out for 37. Viola took over, with excellent running between her and Salma, and then with Lucy. After Viola was out for 14, Antonia took up the challenge with Lucy and they brought the score up to 144 off our 30 overs.
By now the outfield had dried out and we had a solid shiny ball to bowl with. Maz and Viola were miserly with their bowling, keeping the score down and pressurising the batsmen as the run rate crept up. Fielding was excellent, with excellent stops by Lucy, Lauren and Asma, who were determined not to let anything past them. Wickets began to tumble when Antonia and Mags came on to bowl. Antonia took 3 for 14 and Mags 3 for 24. Salma wrapped it up with 2 for 15. Katie was unlikely not to be given a run out with a fantastic long throw and direct hit, but Viola managed this feat a couple of overs later. Debbie kept well throughout and took an excellent low catch off Salma’s bowling. A fantastic team performance to bowl Chesham out for 86. Everyone starred today, even if we did look half asleep at 10am!!!!!!
An excellent end to the league season. We have finished third in the league, 3 points behind Wanstead and 2 points ahead of Harrow. Hampstead are clear winners. Ickenham and Chesham have some crucial games still to play to determine who is relegated. What is really pleasing is that we have depth in our squad. Everyone contributes to scoring runs, taking wickets, inspiring in the field and the all important support from the sidelines.
