Bessborough III v Actonians Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 06 Sep 2014 at 12.30pm
Match was Drawn 1 Point

Match report Oa's ended the season with a losing draw against a Beesborough side keen to make up for a disappointing season for them, following relegation.

A's arrived at Headstone Manor to see a much changed team from our previous encounter at Swyncombe which the Axemen had won comfortably by 5 wickets with 6 overs to spare. To be truthful this was probably the Beesborough side we had expected earlier in the season, particularly given the success of their other 3 elevens this season, so whilst it was disappointing to not claim a victory against a side which had already been relegated, it did not reflect the strength of the opposition.

Captain Smith successfully called tails and decided to bowl. The a's got off to a good start restricting the hosts to 50/1 of 15 overs. However, at this stage it became the James Wheeler show as he crashed a magnificent 128 to take the game away from the A's. He was ably supported by Edmunds (52) as they put on around 200 for the 2nd wicket.

Whilst both batted well to say the Axemen bowled badly would be unfair and both batsmen would be the first to admit that they had a few elements of luck which just didn't go our way yesterday. However, it was only towards the end where the a's brought back some respectably with a five for from Kier Smith, who showed that the only way for the Axemen yesterday was indeed Essex.

At tea, it was felt that the score whilst a good one was possible to chase down as it was a good wicket. Unfortunately the Axemen batsmen didn't quite have the same luck as the Beesborough batsmen and any mistake made seem to result in a wicket.

The game looked lost until a noble stand of around 40 between Asad Hussain (9) and Rashpal Sandhu (28 Not Out) saved a losing draw. Although Mr Hussain tried his best to give the visitors a chance by getting himself stumped with two balls to go. Leaving Smith with one ball to survive. Thankfully the ball missed both his stumps and his bat and the a's ended the season with a draw and a point.

Whilst it wasn't the best way to end the season, their were some good signs for next season, but the Axemen will need to start picking up points away from home after an excellent record at home this season.
