Match report What an exciting and nail biting game?!
Lost the toss and got put in to field on a warm, sunny day. Kesley Toner opened the bowling with Reshma Garara keeping the run rate low in the first 6 overs. The heat then took its toll and we seemed to get slower on the field, dots turned to singles and singles, doubled, some even running away for fours. Our bowlers bowled well, but our fielding just didn’t come together for us. The opening batters Bhavika Gajipar and Nehal Dave built a steady and strong partnership of 113 before a great piece of fielding from Keeley Juster ran out Gajipar (50). This lifted the spirits of the team, and the energy was back, everyone on their toes restricting these runs and ready for catches. Lucy Davies bowled well and was rewarded with the wicket of Dave (71), a great catch from Lauren Oliver at mid off. Harrow Town at this point aiming to put a much big target on the board, we kept on our toes and put them under great pressure. A fantastic throw from Oliver and a well aimed flick from Sarah Baigent in the final over restricted them to 150.
The sun went in and the clouds covered the skies above as we went in to bat. Runs came fast, but we lost big wickets early. Our biggest partnership of 37, come after the fall of the fifth wicket in the 11th over, between Margaret Page and Lucy Davies. Page batter well but a slower, straighter ball dismissed her for 27. We needed 54 runs and had 14 overs to get it in, Davies stayed composed and played a mature and elegant innings scoring her first ever 50. Katy O’Sullivan (5) and Carlene Bender (1*) both batted well and supported L. Davies, who hit nine 4’s and a big 6 to finish on 59 not out.
Well done to Katie Davies for keeping in the scorching heat and Hannah Drake for filling in last minute allowing us to put out 11. Thank you and well done to everyone for sticking with it and working hard right to the end!
Congratulations to Lucy on her first ever 50, looking forward to seeing some more!!
