Actonians Cricket Club Won

Match report Firstly a big thank you to Alistair Panton for stepping into umpire for us, Oclevia for filling in to ensure we have a full team out and the Davies sisters taking it in turns to do the score book.

After a delayed start with discussions over the safety of the pitch we were put to bat. This season we have had to play around with the top order and it was Katie Davies and Margaret Page's turn to open. They both looked like they were getting their eye in well, in the first over. Then unfortunately the second over saw Page given out lbw. The umpires where being strict on the LBW with Katie falling in the same way in the next over to a ball that stayed low after it pitched. This put Kelsey Toner (12) and Ellie Bourne (18) out in the middle with loads of time to build a strong partnership. They both took a few balls to play themselves into the game and then went out and enjoyed themselves building a partnership of 39 in the 5 overs they were at the crease together. Debbie Cutris added 20 to the team total before been given out lbw. Edna Moses was the only big contributor after Curtis, finishing on 16 not out.

After a short break for tea, the sun got warmer and we were out on the field defending 99. We knew we had to work hard bowl tight and aggressive and attack every ball on the field stopping those easy runs. Kelsey opened the bowling doing exactly what was asked of her taking a wicket on her second ball sending back their opener. This bought Jo Windsor to the crease, we knew she was a big hitter and a key player in the game. Both Toner and Bourne bowled tightly giving away very little and taking early wickets in the opening 8 overs of the game. Lucy Davies and Ally Panton were bought in, tomix up the bowling, the bowlers were well supported by everyone on the field, Katie Davies took a great catch at square leg off Pantons' bowling, sending Windsor back after a quick fire 28, the game wasn't over there, we still had to work hard to slow the runs and continue taking wickets at regular intervals. Margaret Page was then introduced to the bowling attack to reduce the run rate, taking two wickets just when we needed them. This left the tail end of Ickenham’s batting order with a lot of work still to do. We continued to work hard on the field and create pressure. Reshma Garara came onto bowl, restricting the runs. K. Davies took another fantastic catch, one handed to her right at point, leaving us one wicket to get. Garara finished her over with a ball hitting the stumps, with the team bowling Ickenham all out for 71. The fielding and bowling really came together in this game and there was a great buzz and atmosphere amongst the team even when we didn’t look too good on paper. Great team spirit. Great win.
