Match report Hemel Hempstead away 7 September 2014
Last match of the season and we were determined to finish in style. We won the toss and went in to bat on a very green wicket. Marilyn Smith and Kelsey Toner opened, and soon found out that it wouldn’t be easy to score runs through the long grass in the outfield. Kelsey was unluckily out lbw for 12 and Preeti Kate came to the crease. She added 7 runs before being caught. Marilyn Smith was caught behind for 20 and Katie Davies came out very determined. She hit an aggressive 39 before being out lbw. Lucy Davies and Viola Lough batted well together, with Lucy getting 14 runs before being caught and Viola scored 12 before being bowled. Debbie Curtis (5) and Reshma Garrera (3) both fell victim to more lbw decisions, and Katy O’Sullivan and Edna Moses were not out 3 and 1 respectively.
142 was a good total. Kelsey and Viola opened the bowling. Their figures of 1 for 10 and 1 for 8 off the first 8 overs put us in the driving seat. Lucy Davies ( 2 for 8) and Reshma Garrara (1 for 4) kept it really tight. Preeti Kate and Salma Virk also took wickets, leaving Marilyn Smith and Salma Virk wicketless. Hemel Hempstead only made 74, so we finished the league with a convincing win. Tight bowling and fielding are becoming our trademark. Great to end the season in a match where everyone contributed. A real team effort
We have finished 3rd in the league, an excellent result. And we have the cup finals next weekend. Great season ladies
