Actonians Cricket Club Lost

Match report Today I'd like to start the match report with a note of thanks. Thanks to Cashmira for getting on the note and coming to play at Wanstead at one hours notice. Thanks to Michael Baigent and David Thurston for giving loads of lifts to Wanstead. Big thanks to David for stepping in at the last minute to umpire and score. And thanks to everyone for trying so hard and doing your best.
We all had nightmare journeys getting to Wanstead, and the start was delayed by 30 minutes. The pitch was muddy and slippery. We started off a bit down and defeatist. But that soon changed and the spirits lifted. Probably the best spirit of a match all season. Great effort.
And now for the match report.
Marilyn Smith and Sarah Baigent opened the batting. It was a struggle at one end, as every time we tried to play a shot the back leg went skidding away in the mud and we both fell over. The umpire assured me it was because I wasnt wearing spikes - the pitch was perfectly playable! Anyway, after more delays to sweep sawdust around and change footwear, off we went again. Sarah regained her batting style, hitting the openers with ease and racing to 20 runs. Trying to hit the straight ball out of the ground was her undoing, but it was a great innings for a while. It was a difficult pitch to get going on - long grass and hilly and we scored very few 4's. We cranked the score up to 93 for 8, Marilyn Smith the only other player in double figures with 32.
W thought it would be just as difficult for them to bat on. And it was to start with. Kelsey Toner carried on her aggressive opening burst from last week, with 3 for 24. This included an excellent catch behind by Debbie Curtis. At the other end Marilyn Smith kept the runs down with 1 for 9. Ellie Bourne bowled well, only being hit for 18 runs off her 6 overs, and Hannah Thurston got 1 for 20 and Reshma Garrera 0 for 22. The fielding was tight all the way through, and everyone kept alert and ready. Megan Bunker, Cashmira Pramanik, Carlene Bender and Katy O'Sullivan all fielded really well, supporting their bowlers. But we just didnt have enough runs on the board. They got the score in the 25th over, same as they did last week.
Well done everyone for playing well and keeping the spirit and effort going for the full 30 overs.
Reshma is captain for the next 3 matches so please help and support her.
Training is still on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6.30pm
A new fixture to give your availability for is the Cup semis and finals day on 14 September. We have qualified for the cup semi's so keep the day free
And the next social event is the race night on Saturday 26 July. Carlene is selling tickets for the night. If you cant make it on the night, you can sponsor a horse and/or jockey instead. Its a fun night out, and fundraiser for the club
