Harrow Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Sun 24 Jul 2016 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won
Match report
We may moan about being in the end net when the sun is blaring down at training, the key to the refs room being in Jacks pocket in Barnes, the scorepad not being charged etc, etc. But, when these issues arise for us we know the guys will move down nets if they can, Kevin will take down the refs room door if it came to it, but the men will do what they can to get the key back to us, the bar will lend us an extenson lead to plug the scorepad to the mains. It's games like this one in particular that reminds us how lucky we are to be apart of such a supportive and connected club and although we may have a little moan now and then we all pull together when its needed, we are one club.
Harrow Town Ladies hadn't played a game in 8 weeks and it wasn't how they wanted to get back into things. They won the toss and chose to bowl first. After a delayed start to allow for their players to arrive, then a panic to find bails we finally got underway. We started well with Keely and Rebecca, who both rotated the strike and put away the bad balls, until Keely was given out LBW in the fifth over. It was a good assertive start with 35 on the board when Katie went in. The both continued to take advantage of the short boundary on one side and the downhill slope of the other. It was lovely to watch them both as we reached a team total of 100 and both individually scoring their half centuries. Their partnership of 118 with both their wickets falling in the same over, Rebecca scoring 69 and Katie on 56. With the score at 160/3 off 21 overs, there was little pressure on the incoming batswomen, just needed to keep the runs ticking over. Edna played in true Edna style scoring a quick fire 16 off 8 balls before being given LWB trying to play across. Charlotte playing her first game for Old As kept the runs coming finishing on 36*, she was supported well by being Debbie, Reshma and Hazel another debutant for the team. We had hoped to double our halfway score of 107, which we have surpassed finishing on 227.
We had many bowling options this week and with the target we had set we had the freedom to share the overs around. Reshma and Hazel opened the bowling, Harrow Town openers were looking comfortable, maintaining a good run rate until a simple catch to Keely at mid on saw the young opener back to the side lines. We fielded well in the field and kept on our toes looking for those run outs. Edna and Charlotte came on to bowl keeping it tight and the required run rate slowly started to creep up. The opener was given LBW and that was the start of Edna's wickets. At half way they were well behind the run rate at 61/2 a change of bowling saw Keely and Amy with the ball. Rebecca had a premonition and moved herself to silly mid off and took an amazing catch the very next ball - great reactions! Keely continued to bowl well taking another wicket in her second over. Amy bowled well and was rewarded with a wicket in her last over another catch from Rebecca. Edna came was bought back on and took two more wickets. We didn't manage to get the final wicket but restricted them to 108 off their 30. Some really good athleticism in the field made them have to work really hard. Really good win, lets continue this form at Hampstead on Sunday.
Thank you to Charlotte and Hazel for making the long journey to play, we loved having you and hope you enjoyed it. Pete for umpiring and Jennifer for scoring.
