Match report Match Report Wanstead away Sunday 14 June
The start was delayed 45 minutes to allow colts to finish their match, but this also helped the rain to clear, so not all bad.
Losing the toss, Maz and Amy went out to bat. They put on an opening stand of 60, before Amy was caught for 24. An impressive start as an opener, well batted. Katie came in at 3 and hit a quickfire 12. She was followed by Lucy who scored 1, and then Mags Page came to the crease. She scored 13 and then Edna came to the crease. Confidant after a good knock in the development game against Ickenham midweek, she scored 23. Camille added 3 runs and Reshma 1, to bring the total up to a respectable 155 runs. Maz batted throughout for an unbeaten 70.
Camille and Lucy opened the bowling. Camille kept it really tight, going for just 12 runs off 4 overs. At the other end, Lucy bowled with venom, taking 3 wickets, with excellent catches by Edna and Amy. Wanstead continued to come at us, hitting the ball hard and in the air. Mags took 1 for 24 and Edna took 3 for 23 off her 6 overs. Reshma got a run out, and we thought we had a crucial runout of their dangerous bat, but the umpire found fault with the way the bails were dislodged and did not give it. We thought we had them on the rack, but they kept on attacking the ball. Maz took a wicket and they were 8 down, needing 20 runs off the last 4 overs. We just couldn't take the last 2 wickets, with Tash from Wanstead hitting an unbeaten 55.
Wanstead reached our target with 8 balls to go.
A disappointing end to a match that promised so much. We did really well with only 10 players. That extra space in the field, coupled with dropped catches, hurt us. Having said that, the fielding was excellent, and some good catches were taken
Pretty good to be in mid June before we lose the first match of the season. Lets remember the pain of losing and make sure we don’t go there again
