Actonians Cricket Club Ladies XI v High Wycombe Ladies on Sun 23 Aug 2015 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won

Match report The rain started as both teams arrived to the ground, after some controversy and an hour and half delay play got underway. We set out to field first, Maz and Lucy opened the bowling, both bowled well keeping the run rate down. A few decisions not going our way kept the openers in, but the run rate remained low. Lucy was finally rewarded with a wicket in the 10th over, tight bowling was backed up with great fielding and High Wycombe were 31 for 1 off the first 12 overs; Maz 0-22, Lucy 1-7. Eleanor playing her first ladies league game and Edna were bought on, both bowled well creating wicket taking opportunities, we just couldn't hold on to those well hit balls from Katie Hudson the opener. A great delivery from Eleanor left the visitors on 45 for 2 of 15 Reshma came into the attack the next over and dismissed the opener lbw for 48. Eleanor finished of 1-23 off her 6 overs, Reshma 1-14 off 3. We had lots of bowling option and mixed it up, not letting the batters settle, Mags was introduced into the attack and Edna was bought back on, runs slowed down and wickets started falling. There seemed to be a repelling force when Mags bowled, the ball missed the wickets by a whisker on numerous occasions, but she found herself on a hatrick ball after taking a wicket at the end of her second over and another with the first ball of her third. The field was bought in to put pressure on the new bat, but it wasn't meant to be Mags finished on 2-5 off her 3 overs. Edna bowled the last over taking two further wickets finishing with 2-31 off her 6 and High Wycombe setting a target of 108.

We opened with Maz and Edna, there was no rush to get runs and started off well. The bowling wasn't the usual type of bowling we have faced this season and had to be really patient and wait for the ball. Frustration set in with the slower bowling and both the openers where caught behind leaving us 23 for 2 in the 7th over. Katie and Lucy were in and struggling to play the loopier, slower balls their both losing their wickets within an over of each other. We were 35 for 4 with two new players in, Mags and Amy built a good partnership and kept the runs coming with lots of quick singles and great running between the wickets. Mags fell foul of a slow straight ball that took her wicket and we were 71-5 after the 20th over. Although runs were hard to come by the require run rate remained low, Debbie went in to keep the runs ticking over before been given LBW in the 23rd over. The run rate had crept up, the aim was to get bat on ball and take as many quick single to keep the runs ticking over. We required 21 runs off the last 5 overs, with runs hard to come by it felt a bit too close for comfort. The players on the balcony seemed to be feeling the pressure more than Amy and Reshma who stayed composed, rotated the strike and taking doubles where possible. Two much welcomed boundaries from Amy in the 27th over left us needing 2 run in the last 3 overs. We comfortably chased the target in the end with an over to spare.

Great win for our last home game of the season.

Thank you Jennifer for scoring and G for umpiring.
