Old Actonians beat Ealing in a thriller !!

04 Jun 2013

A match report from the recent girls Under 13 game against Ealing from Michael Baigent.

Ealing won the toss and opted to field.

One or two of our players must have known how good the Ealing bowlers were, because there wasn't a rush of volunteers to open.

They were correct, because Ealing had 5 very good bowlers, who gave the girls very little to hit - and hardly any extras. Our top scorers were Samiha, with a very brisk 17 (including one terrific hit back over the bowler's head), Hannah, with 17 not out and Elsa, with a very promising 10.

72 for five wickets might not sound a huge score, but given the bowling it was very creditable.

When Ealing batted they too faced some excellent bowling and fielding and were always just behind the run rate required as their wickets fell steadily. Suddenly with three overs to go they realised it was now or never and started to run everything. There was a little panic in the field and a little panic among the batsman and a little panic among the spectators and as Samiha started to bowl the last over Ealing needed four to win with two wickets left.

Wow - a wide- a bye - a run out and then another attempt to run a bye - no panic from OAs, another run out and a one run win.

Wicket takers were Hannah, Samiha, Nadia and Gemma with three run outs. Especially well bowled to these girls and Katie who all bowled the final overs as the pressure mounted...And to all the rest.. who kept their nerve better than me...

Next match is on the 14th June at Richmond
