Match report CLIFFORD PILE BEEDAZZLES BESSBOUROUGH WITH 6 WICKETS TO STEER OLD A'S TO VICTORY

After two washouts in a row, the Old Actonians 1st XI team were keen and ready for a big performance. Upon arrival it was discovered that Bessborough's ground was in a less then ideal state with soft pitch, long grass and puddles throughout the outfield. Despite this, the game was to go ahead and Captain Jinesh won the toss and sent the home side into bat. Some tight bowling combined with the slow outfield restricted Bessborough's charge with Scott Ensom continuing his good performances with the ball taking 2 early scalps. Fantastic line and length from Anthony Carlos enabled just 14 runs from his 13 overs, and Craig Nel also picked up a crucial wicket in his first over of the season. Special mention must go to Old A's veteran Clifford Pile who after sustaining a horrific bee sting mid spell managed to punch through the pain barrier and return Bee-E-Autiful figures of 6/30 (16). Clifford bambeezled the home side with his wirily off spin in a stinging spell. A small wag from Bessborough's tail pushed the score from 8/72 to finish with 10/118 off 51.5 overs. Despite this, Old As were confident of raining in the low score.

Raj and Jack began the chase on the slow deck. Jack succumbed to a ball keeping low and Scott strode out to mount the recharge. Defensive bowling and field settings from Bessborough allowed a run rate of less then two per over, with the pressure of the chase mounting. Scott, debutant Stuart and Jinesh were dismissed soon after each other with Old As still needing 40 odd runs for victory. Raj batted well in a hard fought innings scoring 43 before loosing his wicket. Craig Nel combined with Trent to steer the Actonians home with Craig dispatching some loose bowling to finish the game. It is believed he has a summer ball to attend and decided that if it was "In the V - It was in the Tree!". A great performance from the lads and a definite confidence booster as we lead into the latter part of the season. The first team now sit in equal 6th place and are hoping of a strong charge into August and September. Next week we play Wycombe House at home starting at 1pm.
