Match report Sunday 13 May 2012: Old Actonians Ladies (home) v Orpington Nomads

At last the season began for the Ladies. The inaugural Old Actonians Ladies match was played against Orpington Nomads. It was a friendly as the season opener, with both sides trying out new players, and the match was played in excellent spirit, with the aim being giving everyone a go to warm up for the league games ahead.
Old Actonians batted first. Cath Goold and Sana Tirmizi opened the batting, Cath scoring 2 and Sana unluckily being out for a duck. Newcomer Oclevia Poynter showed promise at No 3, scoring 10. She was well suported by Marilyn Smith (10) and U 15 Katie Davies top scored with 11, coming in at No 5. Esme Cooke added a useful 6 runs, with Debbie Curtis and Asma Aaftab adding 4 runs each. Old Actonians scored 82 off 40 overs.
Orpington Nomads batted strongly. Esme Cooke bowled well, taking 2 wickets for 27 runs off 5 overs. Katie Davies, Gina Maben, Sana Tirmizi and Jacqui Harrington all took wickets, with Debbie Curtis and Katie Davies each taking a catch sharing wicket-keeping duties.

The league starts next week, 1.30pm start at home to Wanstead.
