Actonians Cricket Club Ladies XI v Hampstead Ladies on Sun 26 May 2013 at 2.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Lost

Match report At last the sun was out for us to play cricket. Hampstead put us in to bat, and we started steadily with Sarah Baigent and Cath Goold. Unfortunately, disaster struck in the 3rd over when Cath top edged a pull into her eye and had to retire hurt. Hope you feel better soon and the shiner isn’t too big. Lauren Oliver (17) and Marilyn Smith (32) started to move the ball around, and Marilyn hit her first 6 for the club. We were looking good on 69 for 2 after the 11th over. However, no-one else managed to stick around and wickets then began to tumble. Katie Davies (6), Viola Lough (9), Debbie Curtis (8) and Lucy Davies (4) all helped to move the score on to 119 before we were all out (well, apart from Cath who had retired hurt!)
We worked really hard in the field on a hot day. Miserly bowling by Marilyn Smith (0-17 off 6 overs), Viola Lough (0-13 off 5 overs) and Sarah Baigent (2 for 16 off 5 overs) kept Hampstead under pressure and forced mistakes. Opener Lucy horitz was run out by Reshma Garrera and she was quickly followed by Sian Culley, an excellent catch in the deep by Lauren Oliver off Camille Harrison. Sarah Baigent bowled well, and coaxed a short catch to Lucy Davies. Then the cracks in the Hampstead batting line up began to show. They were cruising on 100 for 3 in the 22nd over. Camille Harrison, Sarah Baigent and Lucy Davies all took wickets, bowled.
Ex Old Actonians player Vicky Fisher had held the innings together for Hampstead, and looked to hit the winning runs. Instead, she hit the ball straight to Viola Lough with the scores level, to give Reshma Garrera a wicket. Could Old Actonians take 2 more wickets to force an unlikely tied match? Unfortunately, no, but we ran them close. Losing an opener retired hurt in the 3rd over was unlucky, but thanks to Carlene Bender for stepping in to field, and also to Asma Aaftab for playing at very short notice.
We nearly did it today girls – on the re-match, we can do it. Just believe in yourselves
