Scorecard
West Harrow 3 v Actonians Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 17 May 2014 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 10 runs
Match report
Things did not start well for the 4’s at West Harrow, 3 early wickets resulted in a scorecard of 7/3 and real concern for the early season pacesetters. However new faces Matt Conwell and Tushar Pathak steadied the ship on a pitch where back of a length balls were sometimes going through at ankle height. Soonafter Tushar was dismissed, Matt fell to a ball that pitched and rolled after crafting an excellent 47. Andy Grant and Roheet shared an obdurate stand to take the 4’s past 100 before Chetan and Nathan increased the scoring rate towards the end of the innings. The final pair of Bob and Nathan took the score to 189, which at one stage looked impossible. Bob and Nathan’s partnership put the finishing touches on what had been an excellent team effort to recover from a terrible start.
Following Tea West Harrow started well against the unlucky Tushar and Nathan before a grubber accounted for the West Harrow skipper who looked in good form. Though West Harrow threatened to get away, and their middle order showed class not often found in the 4’s, the pitch and good fielding kept Old A’s in the game. Nathan picked up the rest of the top 4 with excellent catches from Roheet and Andy. However West Harrow’s number 5 Amit was looking in control and with only 4 wickets down and with almost 150 on the board Old A’s were in trouble. The skipper then turned in an excellent spell of bowling that tied down the dangerous Amit before cleaning him up. This precipitated a bit of a collapse by West Harrow as Roger whipped the bails off to bag a lightening stumping and Roheet’s economy and straight lines brought about a 4 for. Andy Grant polished off the tail leaving West Harrow 10 short.
From a disastrous start, and despite the game seeming to slip away at times the 4’s showed excellent character to win their second game on the bounce. This was a genuine minefield of a pitch and 189 was a very decent score with excellent contributions right down the order.
Highlights:
- Roheets top league score.
- The Bob and Nathan’s last wicket stand really making the difference.
- Roger's keeping was immacculate again and Andy's diving catches and stops lead the way in the field
- Tight fielding all round, and generally the way the whole team stuck in there.
Lowlights- This is a clubwide lowlight, shocking game from the single men of OACC disappearing off to the Fulham Slug when the clubhouse was full of female hockey and football players.
