Actonians Cricket Club 4th XI v SKLP 3 on Sat 21 Jun 2014 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Lost by 174 runs

Match report This was a tough game for the promotion chasing 4’s. SKLP turned up with a strong side reinforced by returning university students. After being put into bat the SKLP openers looked untroubled by some good bowling by Rezaul and Ramon and were timing the ball well. The 4’s were certainly fortunate to pick up both openers for relatively low scores as John Hawkins and Ramon held on well to full tosses hit hard in their direction by the classy SKLP openers. SKLP’s number 3 Muki went on to pass 50 displaying a penchant for the leg side now, and between Shane (46) and other regular aggressive contributions down the order from the rest of the SKLP batsmen, SKLP scored quickly. SKLP’s 260 was the most conceded by the 4’s this season and though SKLP batted well, they were helped by 8 dropped catches, which as skipper Roheet pointed out, is really an unacceptable number. The skipper picked up 4 wickets and Azeem on another day could have had a lot more than 2 if catches went to hand or were taken. Generally the 4’s bowled well, it was very much the fielding that let us down.

The 4s batting left a lot to be desired, and lacked a little of the fight that had seen them over the line in recent weeks. Though Billy and Sharukh both looked in decent nick at the top of the order, they were undone by inappropriate shots. The SKLP bowlers bowled well and were perhaps a little better than many the 4’s have faced this year. However the batting collapse that saw none of the other of the 4’s top 8 pass double figures was disappointing to say the least. The highlight of the innings (and the day in general) came from Ramon’s 29 from number 9. Without this score the 4’s would have posted a really embarrassing total. Ramon struck the ball well and showed excellent technique in defence. When a colt at number 9 makes it look easy, the top order know they really should have done better.

This was the day when most things that could go wrong went wrong and the 4’s will look to get a promotion challenge back on track in the next few weeks.
