Match report On a really hot day Ickenham put us in to bat. Sarah Baigent and Katie Davies opened and came up against an opening bowler who meant business. Ash Popat was particularly fired up and we were 10 for 3 in the 3rd over. Keely Juster and Marilyn Smith batted together for 19 overs, scarily 25 years since they first played cricket together. They put on 99 until Keely was given out lbw for 39. Lucy Davies became Popats 3rd wicket. Preeti Kate steadied the innings, and Marilyn Smith was out for 57 in the 27th over. Reshma Garrera and Preeti took the score to 126, a great recovery.
We knew we had to take wickets, preferably that of Jo Windsor, who holds their batting together. Lucy Davies took a great reaction catch to dismiss the opener for a duck, and Preeti Kate took a catch at point to remove the other opener. Two wickets for Reshma. This unfortunately brought Windsor to the crease. She ended up on 86 not out, having been dropped 6 times. Cashmira Pramanik took a catch at gully off Marilyn Smith, and Lucy Davies took a wicket caught and bowled. Marilyn Smith had a run out, but our efforts were in vain. Ickenham reached the target of 127 in the 28th over. Windsor got 86 of their 127 – what a difference getting her out would have made.
We know what we have to do next time we play them. Bat straight, bowl straight and hold our catches!
