Match report We started well, with really tight aggresive bowling by Antonia Welch (0 for 12) and Viola Lough (0 for 21), backed up by excellent fielding all round. Marilyn Smith came on and took 3 wickets for 21, with well held catches by Smith and Amy van Collomberg. Amy came on to bowl and took a wicket in her first over. Radlett were really at 45 for 4 after 16 overs. Unfortunately this brought Alexis Mannion to the crease, and the two bats started to hit out, putting on a partnership of 95. We were a bit slow to react, but gradually pulled it back and slowed down the runs, with good overs from Lucy Davies (1 for 14) and Reshma Garrera (0 for 21) at the end of the innings. That left us chasing 144.
Radlett aren't unbeaten at the top of the table for nothing, and had strength in depth in the bowling. Sarah Baigent made 8 quick runs and then misjudged a fielders position and was run out. Marilyn Smith made 28, and Katie davies a quickfire 15. Antonia Welch held the innings together, with her maiden 50 for the club. Lucy Davies (8), Ellie Bourne (4) and Debbie Curtis (4) all contributed, but we couldnt quite match the Radlett power hitting and only made 128.
A good effort, but we really need to work on our batting, occupying the crease and building partnerships. Bowling and fielding were great today, but we came up against a good side.
We are now 4th in the table, and next week play Wanstead at home, who are only 6 points behind us in the league. They have won the same number of matches, but we have 6 extra batting and bowling points to keep our nose in front. So, lots to work on in nets this week, and we can get back to our winning ways
