Remarkably, we got to play on a soggy Hampstead pitch early in the season. A good toss to win, and we took to the field. Lucy Davies bowled the longest over in history. After one ball, we stopped for more sawdust. After 3 balls the ball flew off the pitch into a puddle on a nearby construction site. It took ages to break in, scoop the ball out and dry it. Then one ball later Lucy decided she needed spikes to bowl so off she went. After 15 minutes we finally got on to the next over!
It was a great fielding performance. Everyone was on fire. Debutante u15’s Gemma Hill and Mya Brown got their bodies behind the ball and stopped everything. Hope the bruises die down soon girls. Preeti Kate got the first wicket with an excellent stop and throw in the field to run out Vicky Griffiths Fisher. Lucy Davies deserved a wicket, and she took it in her last over, ending with figures of 1-13. Marilyn Smith ran out captain Sian Culley with a direct hit and hampstead were 50 for 3. Then Meghana Bhide came on to bowl and took 2-15. Edna Moses bowled really tightly, only going for 7 runs off her 6 overs. Preeti Kate took 1 for 16 and Reshma Garrera tied up the tail going for 4 runs off 3 overs. Hampstead had only made 77 off their 30 overs.
We started slowly, Marilyn Smith making 10 before being caught in the covers. Katie Davies (38) and Lucy Davies (23 not out) took on the bowlers, and it was left to Preeti Kate to score the winning runs in the 17th over
Excellent start to the season ladies.
