Ealing Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Tue 14 Jul 2015 at 6.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Lost
Match report
A dark blanket of cloud covered the skies above, but the rain held off for the start. Ealing, predominantly a colts side won the toss and put us into bat. With a chance of rain and reduced visibility during the back end of the game we knew we had to put on a big score.
Amy back at her old club opened with Gemma. We did not get off to the start we wanted losing Gemma in the second over. Ealing bowled well, making it harder for us to get the ball away. Struggling to get runs, Amy went on the attack which lead to her been give out LBW. The run built up slowly throughout, Sanaa was hoping to better her score from the previous game, she fought well and kept her wicket safe until the 11th over which also saw the dismissal of Edna, who just couldn't seem to get the ball away. We had 41 runs on the board at this point and under some pressure, runs came slow and wickets continued to fall. We fought hard in the last few overs, Debbie and Reshma running at everything possible finishing on a small target of 77 to defend.
The rain started as our batting innings came to an end, but we continued to play on. They needed less than 4 an over and we knew we have to bowl and field tightly, Katie Reeves and Reshma opened the bowling and were well supported in the field. We got ourselves behind everything, chased down anything that past us, but they were making good progress with the chase. Elsa and Edna came onto bowl fought hard, but we just couldn't get through their openers until the 11th over were Amy was bought on, finding it hard to see the sandy pink ball in the dim light she took a catch off her own bowling, Zara bowling the other end took a further two wickets in the next over, slowing down their runs and giving us some hope. Katy O'Sullivan joined the bowling attack, but the fresh young legs of Ealing tested our fielding running hitting the winning runs in the 17th over.
We worked really hard in the field and bowled better than we have in this league so far. A few more runs on the board and it may have been a different result. Well done for keeping at it despite the hard conditions.
A huge thanks to Matt for umpiring and Michael for scoring.
