Match report We welcomed Winchmore Hill to Boddingtons for the 1st league game of the season and duly invited them to bat first after their skipper called incorrectly. From a distance the pitch looked good but when you walked on it you could close your eyes and imagine you were walking down a cobbled street in Halifax! Rashpal and Tushar opened the bowling and created plenty of opportunities. Unfortunately a number of chances went down which should have put the Hill in a good deal of trouble. However we did have them about 100 for 5 but from then on the game got away from us. One of their openers only scored 36 but did a great job holding up one end while other batsmen chanced their arm the other end. None more so than their number 9 who notched up a well struck 50. Eventually we bowled them out for 232 with Rashpul ending up with 5 wickets.

Although we had 48 overs to bat, you could sense it was going to be a stiff task despite the fast outfield. Our top order looked in decent nick (especially Shabeel) but 3 of them were undone by shooters! To be fair 3 of their batsmen suffered the same fate but we soon found ourselves 62 for 7. I thought best get on the front foot then but my first ball lifted off a length and dealt a nasty blow to the elbow! The lower order stuck it out and put a modicum of respectability to the score but we never threatened.

Overall a disappointing start but the club clearly need to ensure we do not produce a similar pitch for the rest of the season. Winchmore will be one of the stronger sides in the division and on another day we can certainly match them. I should give a special mention to Joshua for playing the day after he got married! He did blot his copybook somewhat by being late! What on earth could he have been doing?
