Hampstead Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Sun 31 Jul 2016 at 10.00am
Actonians Cricket Club Won

Match report Our annual early start, but a lovely morning for some cricket nonetheless. We were put into bat first and with a strong side didn't mind. Rebecca, playing her last league game for the ladies this season opened with Katie. We lost 2 early wickets and their opening bowlers were bowling tight, not giving away easy runs. Rebecca and Antonia played sensibly, seeing out the opening bowlers and we were 41 for 2 off the first 15. Rebecca found her match when it comes to running between the wickets as the pair began to find gaps in the field and run hard, they had pushed the score along to 68 before Antonia was bowled out on 32. Lucy went in and scored a quick 21 before being bowled, while Rebecca continued to play some lovely shots all around the ground, this sadly ended when mid on held onto a catch seeing her off on 61. We continued to play positive, running hard which resulted in 2 run outs, but had wickets in hand and knew we could bat right down the order. Edna played her short but fiery innings hitting a quick 20 before being caught. We batted out all 30 overs finishing on 152 for 9.

With a mens game scheduled to start at 2, we were back on after a quick turnaround. Antonia and Camille opened the bowling, their openers enjoyed the pace of the ball and started strongly. With lots of bowling options, Edna came on earlier than usual, we fielded well and slowed the runs right down. We worked hard and finally got a break through in the 8th over, Antonia bowling the Hampstead captain. Edna followed with a wicket, Rebecca making it look like a simple catch at silly mid on to send back the other opener in the 12th and they were only just ahead of us at 15 with 48 for 2. We continued to share the bowling around and wickets continued to fall. As the run rate started to increase for them our fielding started to become sloppy, with midfields, dropped catches and missed run outs (lots of fines money collected). Lucy bowled beautifully after a two week break taking two wickets. Mags joined in on the action taking four, a great caught and bowl and a simple catch for Debbie behind. The umpire for the mens game looked eager to get on, Reshma took the final two wickets to bowl out Hampstead for 78 in 27 overs - only 8 minutes after the men were due to start.

A really good win and many positives to take from the game. A slow start, doesn't mean a low score. Rebecca and Antonia batted sensibly leaving the team in a good position to finish on a defendable score. We defended the boundary well in the first part of the innings, putting increasing pressure on them to score. It was the best we have bowled as a team this season. A really big well done to everyone!

Thank you too Ryan for umpiring, Emily for scoring and Sophie for making it down to support.
