Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v Ealing Ladies on Thu 02 Jun 2016 at 6.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Lost
Match report
It was another cold and grey day for cricket, but our Middlesex League campaign got underway against the defending champions Ealing. They won the toss and sent us in to bat. We opened aggressively with a boundary on the first ball from Rebecca, Ealing responded with the wicket of Gemma in the second over. That saw Emily Gref to the wicket on her debut. She batted well hitting her first boundary for the club shortly before being run out on 7. The runs continued steadily and we were on target to get over 100 which was our target. A nervous Julie was at the crease hoping to better her last performance, her and Rebecca batted comfortably taking easy singles, running hard for double (even after a sideways dive to get in the crease) and putting the bad balls away. We put a score of 103 on the board, with Rebecca hitting a 6 on the final ball to finish on 52, Julie on 25.
Edna and Katy opened the bowling and where well back up by the fielders, stopping singles and putting pressure on the batters. Our energy had dropped in the field and we really needed to break the opening partnership. Lucy and Reshma came into the attack and the team were finally rewarded with the wicket, a calm and collected catch from Katy at mid-off. Ealing were running hard, but were not communicating well and we just couldn't maximise on run outs opportunities. The pressure started building and they required 14 runs off the last 2 overs. With wickets in hand they began to run for everything (yes, everything!), 2 run outs in the penultimate over left them needing 5 in the last over. A comical last over, including a run out took the game down to the wire, with Ealing winning on a bye with a ball to spare. There are lots of positives to take from the game, we put into practice what we have been doing at training and did really well in the field. The highest run scorer was extras, lets really work on our bowling and make them have to work for the runs next time!!
A massive thank you to Robbo for scoring and Ryan to umpiring.
