Actonians Cricket Club Lost

Match report So it was our first match of the season and we were slightly short of players but that didn't stop us from giving it a go. We started off with the toss and we were put out into the field. Katy opened the bowling for us and started off very well. The bowling continued at a decent level and our fielding was great; particularly Chelsea and Julie who let little through on the squar leg boundary but we weren't having any breakthroughs with the two openers. It wasn't until the 15th over where Reshma bowled a great ball giving us our first wicket of the match! Two new batsmen came out so our aim was to just to keep the run rate down. Sorcha and Muskan continued with their overs and both bowled consistently well throughout the game with Sorcha bringing in a catch for Lucy and getting her first wicket for the Middlesex development league! The bowling was shared around and everyone did well. Hampstead batted their 20 overs and finished off with 127-2. We knew this was going to be a hard score to chase especially with only 9 players but we went for it anyway. It was now our turn to bat and Lucy and Julie opened the batting, it looked promising but a silly shot meant Lucy was bowled and Muskan was in. Julie and Muskan were doing well up until around the 8th over where we went 2 wickets down and we were starting to slightly worry. Debbie came in and took control of the game playing some really good shots and running quick singles we didn't even know were there. After a couple more quick wickets our captain Reshma went into bat with Debbie. These two batted very well together racking up a partnership of 34 which really boosted our score. It was towards the end of the match so Debbie just went for it but couldn't quite get there this meant our last batsmen Sorcha was in. Reshma and Sorcha saw Old As to the end of the innings leaving us with a final score of 88 which was a really good score considering we were pretty much playing their first 11 team! We knew with 2 less players in the field we would have some gaps but everyone fielded really well and worked together to get the ball back into the crease. Our batting was also good we'll just work on defending the straight balls and making sure we're always sliding our bat into the crease when we're running between the wicket. Thankyou to Gopi who stepped in for us last minute and played her first ever cricket match and to the whole team where we all worked together and played one of the most enjoyable games we've ever played against Hampstead! Unfortunately we couldn't get the win today but bring on the next match.
