Actonians Cricket Club Lost

Match report This week started off by winning the toss and chose to field. With 10 men again on a hot day, it was gonna be hard in the field. Reshma and Zara to open the bowling. Both started really well, but after 4 overs Resh took herself which brought on (a rather hungover) Lucy. Wides really do bring wickets, as Lucy got the first breakthrough of the opener on her 3rd ball. 52-1 after 9 overs they looked pretty steady. Zara bowled 6 overs for 33 runs with a notable maiden in her second over, and then Amy took over from her end. The next wicket came from Amy as the batsmen edged one through to Debbie. 111-2 off 16 overs wicket needed. Keeley was bowled out after 8 overs for only 35 runs. A great spell which restricted the runs being scored from that end. We kept changing up the bowling so that they couldn't settle which saw Julie bowl a quick 5 overs for only 31 runs, and Katy O at the other end. With some great chances for Katy O to get some wickets it just wasn't meant to be as Lucy snapped them at the opposite end. Bowling the big run chaser and another great ball to trap their number 4 batsmen LBW. 3 wickets for lucy to add to her ever growing total. Nonetheless we saw one of the best spells Katy O has bowled at the club and in her 6 overs went for 33 runs!! So after 40 overs they had managed to put on 257.
This was going to be a big total and unfortunately it really wasn't our day. Keeley falling early brought Reshma to the crease to bat with Katie. Another straight ball managed to sneak its way to the stump and bowled Resh for 4. Julie was next to the crease. A run called but just not fast enough as Julie was run out. 36-3 off 6 overs saw Zara come in with some lovely shots to put some pressure back on the field was bowled for 8. Out brought Debbie which was nice as we have never batted together in a league game before. However it didn't last very long as I decided to give some catching practice to the field. Lucy and Debbie had a great partnership of 47 before Debbie was bowled for 27. Just a note this is Debbie's highest league total for the club to date so well done!! More runs to come for sure. The next 3 wickets fell in 30 runs. Amy being caught, then Katy O being bowled (after having her first ball somehow get into her helmet?!), and then Lucy LBW for 34 runs. We were all out for 138.
Although we did lose and have things to definitely work on, the positives need to be taken. We were all able to have a go batting, Katy O's brilliant bowling, Debbie's highest score, Zara's great pressure opening the bowling, Reshma coming in at 3 plus Lucy's 3fer and top score (plus more).
Thank you to Peri for scoring and Josh for umpiring. Also Maz for the lovely teas!
