Match report The first friendly of the season saw us take a look at 3 new players as well as Smithy’s newly acquired pecs! As you would expect in April the pitch was a green dobbers paradise with an outfield that had not had time to recover from the football season. Nathan allowed the oppo to bat first so the new ball was shared by debutant Sahil and the returning Shaun Qamar. Both gave little away and it soon became clear it was not going to be a high scoring game. Nathan gave 8 bowlers a go and each had 5 overs and collectively they never allowed AP to get much momentum to their innings. Their number 4 got things going a bit but once Smithy removed him, AP somewhat lost their way and we bowled them out for 110 in 38 overs. Sahil came back at the end and picked up a couple of late wickets to cap a good debut.

We knew that the target was going to be a tricky one as we opened up with Billy and the Preston Wall. The latter was first to go showing the masonry is not quite as solid as hoped. A clatter of wickets including Billy and the 3 new boys, Alex, Ben and Sahil, meant we found ourselves 28 for 5 and in a spot of bother. However the VC came out to join Roger and with a combined age of 112 (I never knew Roger was 80!) there was no shortage of experience! Roger pulled a glute and His attempted hoicks to leg were as painful to watch as they were to attempt I’m sure. However we kept chipping away at the total and when Roger was finally out, the score was 89 and the partnership had gleaned 61. Nathan muscled a few around to help bring the required total to single digits before he called for a daft run (privilege of doing the report I’m going to say it was his fault!) and Shaun struck the winning boundary in the 38th over. VC remained undefeated on 35.
