Match report On a chilly sunny Sunday morning at 10am we travelled for our first Derek Morgan league game of the season. Katie won the toss and chose to bat. Opening up was Katie with Aoife for her first game for A’s. It briefly started well and then some dodgy early season calling saw Aoife run out for 4. In came Aishah. Initially it started well however Katie and Aishah had other plans. A second dodgy call (this time it was definitely Katie’s fault forgetting Aishah is not Usain Bolt) saw Aishah run out for 2. In came Emily next who batted well. Playing some lovely on drives until she was bowled out from a good ball, middle stump. Keely came in and settled the innings with Katie. Drinks taken at 12 overs and we were 58-3. Looking to double our score saw both push for singles and hit the bad balls. In the 16th over Katie was stumped and in came Madeleine (another debut). Keely and Madeleine saw out the innings playing some lovely shots to get us to 94-4 (Keely on 43* and Mads on 8*).

After a short break we were on to the field. Giovanna and Eva opened up. Some lovely consistent bowling from Gio and the pressure building at the other end the breakthrough came when Eva bowled out their opener. Katy O then replaced Gio and had a great spell. She bowled a great ball that the batswomen hit nicely to Aishah who took it safely finishing on figures of 4-0-19-1. 26-2 it was going to be a close game. Maz then came on the other end to keep the run rate down and showed us how it’s done by finally taking the wicket of the other opener. An over later Maz did the same thing and bowled out the no. 5 finishing on 2-0-6-2. Some good fielding in the deep from Sarah and Aoife the score was close as they needed 6 off the last 2 overs. This is where Gio had come back on and was bowling the 19th over. Lovely bowling, good line and length which paid off as Gio bowled their no.4 who was hitting it cleanly. This as a much needed wicket maiden we needed that took some pressure off Eva to defend 6 runs. In true Eva style she took a C&B (a stunning quick reaction catch) to see off one of their best batters. To round off the innings Eva took another wicket by bowling the stumps out the ground. Ickenham finished on 90-7 and Actonians won by 4 runs.
