Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v Ealing CC Ladies on Sun 09 May 2021 at 2.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 16

Match report On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Ealing backed up their competitive reputation by calling correctly and electing to field first. Following on from some fantastic running in the 2 previous games, Aishah Bolt was promoted to open alongside Captain Davies. Some strong early bowling restricted our opening pair to just a smattering of singles in the first few overs. Trying to pick up the pace, captain Davies was bowled, leading to the introduction of Maz. Some more tight bowling followed, leaving A’s struggling on 13-1 off 8 overs. However, both batters now had their eye in, and began to pick up the pace, Maz in particular hitting some lovely drives. Trying to accelerate towards a competitive total, Maz and Aishah got out but some late hitting from Aofie and Mads got us to 90-4.

Whilst 90 on the board was slightly under par, a motivational team talk from captain Davies gave the inexperienced A’s belief that they could defend this with tight bowling backed up by excellent fielding. Up steps one of our juniors Gio in the second over, bowling the Ealing opener with an ugly full toss, and verifying the claim that ‘less than good bowling gets wickets’. Gio was now on a roll, bowling their 2 and 3 for next to nothing, with her 3rd wicket even managing to bring a half smile to her face. Determined to prove that age is just a number, Maz produced a fantastic spell, building pressure with a tight line and getting rewarded with 3 wickets, one of which was a worldie one handed catch from Ireland’s finest, Aoife. Despite these regular wickets, a few too many loose deliveries meant extras were keeping Ealing in the game and it was in the balance at 66-7 off 16. Captain Davies put her faith in youth and they didn’t disappoint, with Riya collecting 2 wickets in an over before Emily finished Ealing off with a fantastic run out to leave them all out for 74.

All in all a very good team performance, with the women of the match votes being shared equally between Gio and Riya. A special mention to the juniors Amy, Gio and Riya, a fantastic fielding display really kept Ealing in check and a few of the seniors (aka Sarah) could learn a lot from these 3. Overall a cracking team performance, same again next week please.
