Match report We rocked up to North London with the majority late or hungover, despite this spirits were high. We remained positive, eager to finish the league season with a win against an oppo we had lost to twice this season. Skip confidently marched out to the middle and lost the toss, hopefully this wasn’t a sign of what was yet to come. Fortunately, North London decided to bat and we were sent out to field, which was all part of Skip’s master plan anyway.

Sarah and Saoirse opened up bowling superbly putting their openers under great pressure. They were unlucky not to pick up wickets in the first few overs with mistimed aerial shots just evading our fielders, a near chop on to the stumps and the ball going though the gate to miss the top of leg stump by millimetres. The luck seemed to be on the side of the North London openers until Saoirse clean bowled one. Just rewards for an excellent start by both her and Sarah. The score was 16 - 1 off 5. Some confident attacking batting from their other opener pushed them to 71 - 1 off 10. The momentum had completely switched sides and it looked like we could be in for a big chase.

Skips desperate to stem the now following runs turned to our nearly old spin queen Aishah, who took a couple of overs to get into her flow, perhaps her age was showing. She then demonstrated why she was called upon getting the breakthrough with Saoirse taking the catch of their number 3. They were 112 -2 at 15 overs. Their opener was in full follow in the 70s when Aishah and Eva began to build pressure and her scoring rate slowed. Antonia caught the opener for 79 off Eva’s bowling. We were confident we could now restrict them to a getable score, the fielding was immense from here as was the bowling. And they lost 4 wickets on a score of 124. They didn’t last long from there, all out for 137 in 27 overs. Aishah decided to celebrate her 30th birthday a day early finishing with figures of 5 for 24. Eva ably supporting with off 3 -15.

Having finished our fielding innings on a massive high, we eagerly tucked into our first proper cricket tea of the league season - it didn’t disappoint! After lunch and a couple of throw downs Maz and Katie strode confidently out to the middle to open. Unfortunately, both fell in quick succession, followed by Keeley within the first few overs. Confidence was dented. Another batting collapse felt inevitable. The lower middle order padded up in a hurry. Antonia and Eva had other ideas, calmly recovering the innings rebuilding to 55 for 3 off 16 kicking on to 78-3 off 20. From here they upped the run rate further with Eva (probably wanting the game to be over before her hangover properly set in) smashing some brilliant cut shots. Antonia was caught for an excellently made 42. Eva was joined by Saorise and the pair scored the remaining runs in what seemed like no time. Actonians winning by 6 wickets with 10 overs to spare. Eva finished on an unbeaten 55 with her partner on 15*.

A great win to end an inconsistent league season giving us great confidence for next year.
