Match report On a hot and humid early morning, we arrived at Boddington and inspected the pitch, which had seen better days. The bowlers’ foot marks from the day before were evened out with some sawdust and we were ready to play.
After beating Harrow last week and them turning up with only 9 players this time, it was game on. Our skipper, Emily, lost the toss and we were batting first. It was a nervy start with Katy O and Emily both being dismissed on the second and third balls of the innings. Gio, Tara and Zara steadied the ship, played some shots and hit a couple of boundaries. Zara faced a 17 ball over and was unable to score off a million free hits so she will be doing some batting practice to learn a few more shots (I blame the pitch). Then Charlie came in, took the attack to the opposition and top scored with 43. We set Harrow 110 to win.
Amy opened the bowling and got the batter lbw on her third ball! However the runs were flowing from their left handed batter and Emily’s confusion over the field for the left and right handers continued throughout the innings. Tidy overs from Katy O and Selma put a pause on the runs. Shout out to Subhana who was playing in her first match and bowled for the first time ever. The left handed batter offered to retire when she reached 50 but her captain wouldn’t let her and the runs continued. Thanks to Charlie’s quick hands behind the stumps and wickets from Selma, Katy O and Zara, we were finally getting somewhere. Emily and Carlene finished off the bowling but by that stage it wasn’t enough to go on and win.
