Ealing Ladies v Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI on Sun 01 May 2022 at 1.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 96 runs
Match report
So the start of a new season and our first game is against our local rivals in our least favourite format...Great.
We made the long journey across Ealing to the main ground of our rivals (yes, you read that right...main ground! Women are people too!) and it instantly starts raining as a grand welcome to our newest Kiwi import. With the threat of our game not starting on time we all huddled into the changing room ready to hunker down and relive the tour through foggy memories of those who attended. Alas that was not to be, the Ealing groundsman convinced the umpires that play could go ahead and Captain Katie strolled out to the middle to complete the toss. The season was off to a great start with a toss win and Actonians were batting.
In a show of faith and excellent captaincy, our fully Irish and sort of Irish batters in the form of Aoife Livingston and Saoirse Del Tufo strode out to the middle. What happened next dear readers was amazing and spectacular. Bearing in mind that Actonians is a team that barely makes it to 100 in 20 overs, on this wet and cold day team Ireland flew the flag and we were at 100 within 10 overs without the loss of a wicket!!! *faints* *doesn't believe life is real* *goes to play the lottery* Whether it was just a May miracle or Aoife felt like she was back home in this rain, she motored to 56 before being run out. Saoirse then missed her partner too much and followed her shortly after having made 64. The next 4 batters, Sarah, Gretchen (the Kiwi import), Lucy and Aishah then made a combined total of 21 but the 42 extras kindly given by the oppo gave us a grand total of 183-4 off our 20 overs.
The batters had done their jobs, now it was up to the bowlers. Opening the bowling and making her debut for Actonians was Laura Wilson who bowled with pace and accuracy (according to her) and finished with 0-19 off 3. At the other end was Aishah Khan who started off well with 1-0 off 2 overs and ended her spell with 1-10 off 4. A great start by the opening bowlers.
Now I'm sure you're reading this and thinking well where's the twist? Surely something went wrong...it's Actonians and a t20! I'm here to tell you that nothing did! Absolutely nothing at all. Nada. Zilch. Niets.👀 Catching isn't part of cricket so the 6 that went down aren't included. They don't exist. They're not important in this multiverse. Let's move on.
Riya and Keely came on next and kept it tight. Some good bowling from Riya frustrating Ealing's opening bat making her change her play allowing Keely to get rid of her when she went for one swing too many. Riya finishing her 4 overs with figures of 0-20 and Keely with 1-14. Gretchen came on next to show us how they do it down under and to the right and finished her first spell for Actonians with figures of 0-12 off 3 overs. Saoirse came on for a bowl managing to almost injure our keeper (Emily Jones) with the extra yards of pace she somehow picked up over the winter and finished with 2-9 off 2 overs clean bowling both victims.
With a run out thrown in there as well, Ealing finished their 20 overs on 87-5 giving Actonians a 96 run win!
Not a bad start to the season after all!
