Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v Harrow St Mary's Ladies on Sun 08 May 2022 at 1.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 89 runs

Match report Our second game of the season was played at the picturesque Actonians home ground against Harrow St Marys, and somehow the UK weather gods actually put on quite the show for us. I didn't know London could be sunny AND warm simultaneously – what a miracle. I might stick around after all.

Being the great hosts we are, we set up a boundary that was reminiscent of junior club cricket days, which really set the tone for the match. We lost the toss and were put in to bat first. To continue the excellent opening partnership from last week's blinder – our favourite (irish?!) duo, Saoirse del Tufo and Aoife Livingston, made their way to the crease. A cheeky nine run over to start, with two classy boundary fours from Saoirse. Before we knew it, Saoirse had brought up her half century in the 7th over with an out-of-the-park six, while Aoife had managed to only face 7 balls... absolutely selfless batting.

Aoife was dismissed in the 10th over going for 12 (15), bringing Antonia Welch to the crease. The boundary rope was getting a hiding on our miniature sized pitch – and skipper Katie Davies was envious of the batters getting all the action and asked if she could have a go. Skipper's wish came true as Saoirse's unfortunate 'straight drive back to the bowler' brushed the bowler's hand, running Antonia out. This meant our skipper was there to hug the legend that is Saoirse del Tufo as she brought up her maiden century in the 17th over... with none other than (you guessed it) a six. #don'tbowlthere

Our remaining batters contributed; Katie 12 (8), Gretchen 6 (4), Keeley 5* (3) and Riya 4* (1) to take the team to a total of 175 runs. Another day out for the 1s!

The 1s returned to the field as a unit that was refuelled, recharged and ready to roll the opposition. Our opening bowlers Laura and Aishah started strong – except for the first two balls of the second over... they didn't count. I think Aish thought the batter was hungry as she fed her two meat pies (sorry Aish), but then followed with a lovely maiden.

Amy Gallagher came on first change to show us how it's done, starting with a double wicket maiden! Then the next over, a brilliant catch was taken by Keeley at mid-off to redeem the teams history of drops and give the kiwi import her first ladies wicket. Amy continued her streak, claiming her second LBW of the day and picking up a 3-fer with final figures of 3-16. Joining the 3-fer club was Radhika Kapur with an impressive 3-4 from just 8 balls, having Harrow St Marys all out for 86 in the 17th over.

Other on field contributions included Actonia with 1-7, Riya with 1-10, and the impressive vocals of fielding specialist Aoife - her money don't jiggle, it folds.

All in all, it was a great day out for the Womens 1st X1 - particularly for our superstar Saoirse finishing on 113 (75) with 17 fours and 3 sixes. What a legend.
