Match report U13 Girls v Sunbury Away – 21st May 2023

The run up to this fixture saw Actonians down to a team of 7 due to an injury but that didn’t put the players off who headed down to Sunbury in fine weather. The ground was beautiful, by all accounts, so I was sorry to miss the match.

Thank you to Marilyn for scoring, Kevin for umpiring, Fi for being the third responsible adult and Rich for taking the kit bag (and Kevin for bringing it back). Truly a team effort!


Scorer’s perspective:

“Bowling was tight – giving away 18 runs v the opposition’s 38. Sunbury had 2 very good Surrey batters. Different game if you’d got them out. Some excellent fielding, but some misses which went for 4, which cost. Could be more flexible in field placing for bowlers. A bit static at times.
Batting - great running between wickets, arguably the stronger of the teams. We just didn’t have the clean shots of their 2 openers. Take out their 2 especially strong players and it would be much closer.
I thought they played very well, didn’t give up and showed a lot of promise. Also, much more supportive of each other in the field, which was nice to see.
The match was played in a great spirit by both sides.”

View from the umpire:

“I agree entirely with Maz. We were good all round and will be unlucky if we face 2 openers who are as good as that in the same side. We bowled and fielded really well although we do need to tighten up in the field a bit and be a bit more assertive when we are attacking the ball in the field. As Maz said we tend to be a bit passive and wait for the ball to come to us. Having said that it was a really positive game of cricket and well done to all those who played.”
