Actonians Cricket Club 4th XI v Wembley 5 on Sat 10 May 2014 at 1.00pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report The 4’s got their season off to a winning start after scraping home against Wembley 5’s. Captain Roheet inserted the oppo on what was a damp greentop, and took the new ball (clearly having taken captaincy/butterworth tips from Smithy) with Kevin Mahoney.
Kevin and Roheet beat the bat on numerous occasions, as the Wembley openers swished their way to 30 for none before Kev made the initial breakthrough. Further wickets tumbled in helpful bowling conditions and at 50 for 5 the 4’s were looking to wrap things up quickly. Belligerent lower order hitting delayed matters before the skipper brought himself back on to bowl at the tail (more tips from Smithy here) and cleaned up Wembley for 100 to finish with 6/30. Generally this was a good bowling and fielding performance all round, and on another day more chances would have gone to hand rather than landing in the gaps.
Roger and Bilal got things off to a solid start against a youthfull Wembley attack before a couple of quick wickets brought Andrew Garner to the crease. Garner provided the telling contribution to the Old A’s innings with a well constructed 26 in partnerships down the order. Though further wickets fell, this was due to good bowling and a helpful pitch rather than poor shot selection. At 92 for 5 chasing 100 things really should have been all over but commendably Wembley fought back with 3 quick wickets to leave Old A’s nervous, but Sami Chishti saw the 4’s home.
This was a good game played in the right spirit by both sides and 4’s look forward to their trip to Wembley for the return fixture. The application showed by the 4’s when batting in difficult conditions probably proved the difference between the two teams.
Highlights included:
-A wicket with his first ball for Old A’s for Andrew Garner…..with a wide full toss.
-Wembley bringing the field up to Katie Davies and seeing her smash it over the top.
-No dollys dropped.
