Credit to Totteridge for coming along with only 8 players – lots of teams would have just conceded and left us with another Sunday disappointment. Nearly got that anyway when we got there and found the pitch hadn’t been confirmed, but the ground staff were excellent and marked out a wicket, opened up ladies changing rooms etc.
And then Maz lost the toss and Totteridge chose to bat. Camille Harrison’s first match saw her open the bowling and take her first wicket of 2015, with an excellent catch by Kelsey Toner. At the other end, Meg Bhide bowled tightly and also took a wicket. Edna Moses and Katy O’Sullivan came on and bowled tightly, and then came the star of the show. Carlene Bender, in her first match of 2015, took 2 wickets and was on a hat trick!. She didn’t get it, but Katy O’Sullivan took a wicket from the other end with her first ball of the over to earn us a team hat trick. Well done Carlene and Katy. Catches were taken by Maz Smith and Katie Davies, and this pair also made a run out each. Keely Juster chipped in with a wicket maiden and they were all out for 51 in the 18th over.
Lucy Davies and Kelsey Toner opened the bowling explosively. Kelsey was out for 6, and Carlene and Katy added a few. Lucy kept attacking the bowling and ended up on 28 not out. Maz chipped in with 6 runs at the end and the match was over. I’m sure we will face a sterner test in the next round of the cup, which is the semi final! But well done to everyone for playing in the right spirit, even if you didn’t all do as much as you might have hoped.
As they say, cricket was the winner today!
