Actonians Cricket Club Womens 1st XI v Hampstead CC Ladies on Sun 13 Jun 2021 at 1.30pm
Actonians Cricket Club Won by 1
Match report
Sunday was a day of great expectations with the sun shining, England playing in the euros, and of course the Ladies match against Hampstead CC. We all rocked up in high spirits ready for the day of ahead. Hampstead won the toss and elected to bat which in our eyes was a win in itself as we wanted to get our bowling attack underway. Sarah and Gio showed what we were made of, with some tight bowling. Hampstead opening batters were looking good and solid – especially when Sarah then threw in a loosener to finish her good spell of nearly 3 maiden overs. Gio was the one who broke the opening partnership – but we do all expect this at this point. Next Riya and Momina were up to have a go. With our bowlers bowling well, and the fielding tight, runs were few and far between for Hampstead – although their big threat of a youth player was yet to come in…
However, Riya was Riya and yeno she got two wickets – yet another “breaking news” story. One was a great catch by Madeleine. Momina at the other end got the other opener as she decided to play a big shot and have a good ole swing of the bat across the line and missed the ball. With the heat Cap Katie was giving short spells so people didn’t pass out. But thankfully our line-up had mainly bowlers, next came on our 72 year old veteran Maz and showed the youngsters how it is done picking up 2 wickets herself. Aishah was next to have a go at the batters but no matter what she did that day the batters decide they did know how to keep a ball out after all.. well for her four overs anyways. She did manage to run out their youngest player with a lovely throw to Emily to take the wickets.
Keely and Madeleine finished it up bowling well picking up 3 wickets between them. Actonians bowling and fielding was something to be proud of having bowled out Hampstead for 55 runs in 23 overs. Although fielding techniques were questioned when Sarah ended up in the foetal position and Emily deciding to crawl at one point and do some twirls at other points looking for the ball.
After a quick break in the shade we set out on the chase with Maz and Katie opening the batting needing a run rate of 1.4 an over. With eyes on the batting points or the football or fantasy points I’m not sure which – Maz and Katie decided 7 weeks of T20s this was the week to get the runs quick. Maz and Katie got off to a flying start with the opening bowlers going for 36 runs in 4 overs. Simple the day was all but done. Suddenly Maz decided to give some catching practice – as it was kindly put to her by the other team - departing for 26 runs. With only 6 runs needed in came in Aoife who much to her best efforts tried to get a six but sadly had to settle for 4 runs. The game ended undramatically 2 balls later in the 6th over. But in big breaking news for the first time in this season our Cap Katie was not out and a ball didn’t even hit her pads this game – she is well and truly back for the season with the cobwebs whipped away. Great start to our 40 over campaign lets keep it up.
